The Smile Virus

April 29th, 2008 by Weco

Smiling is infectious,
you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner
and someone saw my grin
When he smiled I realized
I’d passed it on to him .

I thought about that smile
then I realized its worth,
A single smile, just like mine
could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
don’t leave it undetected
Let’s start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!
- Russell H. Conwell

Epidemics aren’t all that bad…. right?

“Face the brutes”

April 25th, 2008 by Weco

…..Once when I was in Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh, India), I was passing though a place where there was a large tank of water on one side and a high wall on the other. It was in the grounds where there were many monkeys. The monkeys of Varanasi are huge brutes and are sometimes surly. They now took it into their heads not to allow me to pass through their street, so they howled and shrieked and clutched at my feet as I passed.

As they pressed closer, I began to run, but the faster I ran, the faster came the monkeys and they began to bite at me. It seemed impossible to escape, but just then I met a stranger who called out to me, “Face the brutes”. I turned and faced the monkeys, and they fell back and finally fled.

That is a lesson for all life- face the terrible, face it boldly. Like the monkeys the hardships of life fall back when we cease to flee before them…..

- Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902)

I think this story speaks for itself. We could run from our problems forever, but they will always bite back.

Be A Friend

April 24th, 2008 by Weco

Be a friend. You don’t need money;
Just a disposition sunny;
Just the wish to help another
Get along some way or other;
Just a kindly hand extended
Out to one who’s unbefriended;
Just the will to give or lend,
This will make you someone’s friend.

Be a friend. You don’t need glory.
Friendship is a simple story.
Pass by trifling errors blindly,
Gaze on honest effort kindly,
Cheer the youth who’s bravely trying,
Pity him who’s sadly sighing;
Just a little labor spend
On the duties of a friend.

Be a friend. The pay is bigger
(Though not written by a figure)
Than is earned by people clever
In what’s merely self-endeavor.
You’ll have friends instead of neighbors
For the profits of your labors;
You’ll be richer in the end
Than a prince, if you’re a friend.
- Edgar A. Guest (1881-1959)

It’s a moto also taken up by us at Wecomeone. Always help another person who is in need.

Bushmen’s last stand

April 19th, 2008 by Weco

I’m not a big fan of the whole ‘hunter gatherer’ viewpoint. I do like the idea of living off the fat of the land. Living the so called simple life.

But forcing to westernize is just wrong. Its an idea put on so many of the remote areas in the world. Amazonians, Aboriginese and now the Botswana Bushmen.

Away in the heart of the Kalahari, generations of bushmen live. Living off the resources around them. Fresh supplies of water, vegetation and animals roam freely.

Ohh… did I miss the part of the residents starved and forced off their land?

Water supplies have been removed. Residents now being relocated. But…why?

Botswana’s Government has been accused of putting wildlife ahead of people (understandable) but also its pursuit of minerals. Its an unwanted situation. The prospect of managed economic growth or ‘power-to-the-people’?

Through media coverage, increasing protests and pressure on Botswana Government, the case went to court. 2006 marked a landmark achievement for the bushmen. They had their homes back.

It just shows, the unification of positive thoughts and action can bring increased success. But lets not forget about those who lost their lives for this cause.

If You Think You are Beaten

April 11th, 2008 by Weco

If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you’d like to win but think you can’t,
It’s almost certain you won’t.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later, the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.

Walter D. Wintle

Even when times are hard, think about the light at the end of a tunnel.

Our new catalogue

April 9th, 2008 by Sach

Well, its that time of the year where we begin to plan our catalogue.

In our last catalogue we wanted to introduce our dreams, our vision, and our way of bringing about real change in the fashion industry - albeit in a small way.  In our next catalogue we want to show how we’ve grown, where we’ve ended up, and where we hope to go int he near future.  We want to tell you about some of the cock-ups we made - and in hindsight, it’s rather funny!  After all, what else can we do??

Furthermore, we’ve moved into new offices, we’ve been featured in the Times on-line, Fashion & Beauty Magazine and countless number of websites.  Somebody has even spray painted a huge Wecomeone Logo on a blank wall in North Wales.  As soon as we get the pics we’ll post them up.

It’s a lazy Wednesday afternoon, the sun is streaming through the absolutely huge windows, just had lunch and have the urge to grab a quick power nap while the boss (Bhav) is busy doing something else.  Even though its cold, I think Spring is surely on its way, and soon I’ll be heading out towards Dartmoor, where I’ll do days worth of trekking, and wondering the infinite moors.

Can’t wait.
