Want to be a Musician????

January 25th, 2008 by Weco

I have just discovered the best thing since the internet.

As you know, or now know, i love music and play percussion instruments. Well, I’ve wanted a drum set for a while but couldn’t afford them. But now I’ve discovered a knew programme from the Arts Council England.

 The Scheme

The Scheme basically allows you to spend up to £2000 on any product or combination of products and only pay 10% on the day, this includes lesson, tuition, etc . The rest of the money is paid by the Arts Council England who will get the money from you in 10 instalments, and the whole thing is INTEREST FREE!!!!

This may not appeal to some people, but to some may think this is the amazing. For example the drums i want cost £350. I pay £35 a month for 10 months but i also can get lessons, drum equipment, booklets etc and its all covered. The total would come to £500 which I wouldn’t be able to pay at once but £50 for 10 months doesn’t sound too bad.

For more info or to see participating stores visit www.takeitaway.org.uk

Wecomeone Dreams

January 22nd, 2008 by Sach

When we founded WeComeOne - we had dreams.  Dreams that were about Change - the Change was about our Future - & our Future is about our Fragile Earth.

Actually to be honest - I don’t think Wecomeone is saving the planet, I think we’re trying to save humanity - its not Earth thats going to be screwed by all our mindless consumption - its US!  The Earth will just keep on going, its here to stay, for a very very long time.  It’s OUR survival and qualityof life thats worrying me.

WeComeOne has been around 14 months - its just long enough for a new born to begin to sit-up right, maybe even to have murmured a few sounds.  Well WeComeOne is at the same stage - we’re beginning to be heard - people know we’re around, and whats more is that we’re beginning to stand on our own legs.  So far we’ve been nurtured well, we’ve been looked after by all you guys, who come and regularly visit our blogs, buy our tops and support our initiatives.  Without you, this new born would have really struggled.  It because of all your support and nurturing that WeComeOne is now in a position to dream - and begin to fulfil some of them.

WeComeOne now has a Design Studio - www.wecomeonestudio.co.uk our little brother, who is growing rather quickly - we’ve had to move to bigger offices in the quiet town of Market Harborough, in rural Leicestershire.  We love it here.

Wecomeone Dreams are about the environment, they’re about you and I, and of our children - we are convinced that we can use the natural forces of Capitalism, and market forces via innovation to create a sustainable economy - where we can continue to live to higher standards, and protect our environment.  It can be done - we just need the right type of people at the heart of our corporations, and more importantly we need to change the rules of game.

WeComeOne is one of many 21st Century families that can be at the heart of this change - and none of it is possible without you.

So thanks for keeping our Dreams alive.

Hope you had fun with last weeks puzzle. If you got it right, well done to you.

If you couldn’t get it, your going to kick yourselves after you read the solution.

First you switch one light on, after 5 minutes switch it off again and switch another one on.

Then go upstairs, the light which is on is the switch u flicked second. Feel the two bulbs switched off, the warm one is the switch you had switched on and the cold one is the switch you never touched.

Mickey’s Puzzle

January 11th, 2008 by Mickey

First of all let me introduce myself. My name’s Mickey and i’m on an internship at Wecomeone. I’ve been given the task of writing something on the blog but i’ve got a blank mind!! So i thought i’d turn the tables and leave the thinking to other people. Someone gave me a hard brainteaser the other week which gave me a headache so i though id share the joy…

In the basement there are 3 light switches in the off position. Each switch controls 1 of 3 light bulbs on the floor above. You may move any of the switches, but you may only go up stairs one time. How can you determine which switch controls each light? You can’t look up the stairs.

 Bulb Puzzle

I made a little diagram so you can visualise it, Please let me know how you get on email info@wecomeone.co.uk, with the subject being “Mickey’s Puzzle”

A cookie for the first person who gets it right.

Have a fun headache.

Little Hint :- Think practically!!!

I’ll post the answer next Friday.

Good Bad

January 3rd, 2008 by Sach

Good Bad is is when we do good for one thing, which results in something bad happening elsewhere, or later on.  So for example, Eating five chocolate cakes over xmas is good - for our taste buds, but terrible when in Summer when you want to take your top off and lounge in sun!
Another Good Bad thing is when we aspire to buy massive SUV’s - its good for our Ego’s, but bad for our wallets, and absolutely disastrous for the environment.  Another example of Good Bad is when we say such things as “only buy British produce” - its great for British farmers, not so good for our wallets and devastating for 3rd world producers.

Good Bad actions are the norm in most things we do!  It seems that way in my life at least - Good Bad actions can be personal, local or global!  But what to do about it? Are we as a species condemned to do good one minute and something bad the next via the same action?

I think not - well sort off!  Let me explain.  There are some actions which are essentially good, but have short term bad results - these actions I class as “good bad good”.  For example, to transfer our nations energy to thermal or aqua power is essentially good, with bad consequences to our electricity bills in the short term, but absolutely fantastic in the long run for future generations and our old age! Staying off the chocolate cake is a “bad good” action, bad for our cravings, good for the body.  Eating cake in moderation and deciding to work it off is a “good bad good” action - great for our cravings, then its bad for the lazy aspect of our personalities, and brill for our bodies.

So, at WeComeOne, we think of all our actions in this way - in our brains we catagorise our company policy and individual actions in this way.  We strive to do “Good Good” actions only - but these are hard, and far & few in between.  Instead we always think of the long term - so we focus on Good Bad Good actions - so when you see our pricing of fashion or our New up-coming Design Studio, you’ll know how we think.

It must be Good in the short term, we must work it off in the middle - and always end with a good at the end!

So be “Good Good”, be “Good Bad Good”, but never be “Good Bad”!
