“We are just not Thinking, in this most thought provoking time!” - Martin Heidegger

March 4th, 2008 by Sach

This was a comment made by the late German Philosopher Martin Heidegger.  He believed that education in its current state was simply producing very intelligent human beings who were incapable of thinking - at least for themselves or anything original.  Instead, he said that we were very good shufflers of information, we were very good at using what ideas were already out there and applying them to other fields.

What humanity needs he said was an education system that was going to develop our capacities to think again, think for ourselves, think originally, think of things beyond the immediate - in other words to think creatively.  We are indeed all rather a bunch of well trained minds that are essentially empty of anything really original.

“THINK originally” was his war cry!  And its ours too, at WeComeOne.  In fact our entire business model, the way we produce and design our collections, the way we work at the office, the way we market our clothing, the way in which we sell our clothes is all geared towards the idea of doing something original - something that hasn’t been done before.

Our collections, and all of you who have bought from us will vouch for us, when we say that our clothes feel different!!  Its hard to put your finger on it, as to why!!  Even we’re not sure, and we produce them!  But they are different, they feel different, they boast a different message, etc. Why?  Well, I for one think its because we’ve produced something truely ORIGINAL - albeit subtly, but nevertheless different.

Let us know your ORIGINAL ideas, no matter what they are, or how subtle they may be.

Happy THINKING.

Be That Change That Society Needs

November 22nd, 2007 by Weco

Most of us take each day as it comes. We eat. We work. We watch TV. We Talk and we sleep. However aren’t there gaps in between these?

There are activities which fill in the gaps.

Voluntary work (Basically do something for nothing!)

Spend time with someone from a different generation

Learn to be friendly in another generation

Turn off unneccessary lights (both in your daily life and practically)

Write to someone who has inspired you

I think Friedrich Engels sums this up perfectly,

“An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory”

 - Friedrich Engels.

Simple is powerful

July 28th, 2007 by Weco

Its small words that can make the difference. Whether we are motivated, empowered, or even relaxed, one word can usually do the trick. As shown below, it doesn’t need to be complicated to portray the message.

“Did” is a word of achievement.
“Can’t” is a word of defeat.
“Should” is a word of duty.
“Will” is a word of beauty.
“Can” is a word of power.

Pop-ups can be good…right?

June 30th, 2007 by Weco

This little quote popped up while I was surfing the net.

Don’t get caught up in negative thoughts, they will run your life. You are in charge of your journey; depending on how you think, it will be a positive or a negative one”

If only all pop-ups were that good…

Bye Bye Mr. Blair

May 10th, 2007 by Sach

I met Mr. Blair several times and twice we spoke at great length. I’ll be straight - I liked the mGood Bye & Thanks for all the Fishan. In fact, I think he’s the best Prime Minister our country has ever had! New Labour with him at the helm have changed the British political landscape forever - its the work of Mr Blair, that has made the Conservatives take public services and the environmental issues seriously. I’m no Blairite or a Labour man - in fact I actively work against both at times, but credit has to be given where it is due.

The infrastructure of our country has vastly improved - and yes, I do think that NHS has got better, and schools and more of us are working. Mr. Blair has been the first ever PM to build a framework where big business could prosper as well as the working classes. It was he that bought the minimum wage - and so the millions of people who have benefited from that should never miss this little point! It was he who increased the pay of doctors and nurses by over 40% in his time - they shouldn’t forget that either.

And then of course there was the Iraq Invasion - a total and utter disgrace!

I think in hindsight, we will all learn to respect what he has managed to do, even if we don’t particularly like him. Yes, he bought spin, and a heap of other “Blair” side effects - but I think he cured our illness and now that our country is fitter, we don’t need him - and so I say Good Bye, Good Luck - & THANKS for all the FISH!!

Greatest ever Supernova

May 8th, 2007 by Sach

I thought you guys might find this interesting!Supernova

US stargazers beheld the most spectacular supernova ever seen when a massive star exploded in a cosmic flash 50 billion times brighter than the sun, the space agency NASA said on Monday.

“Of all exploding stars ever observed, this was the king,” said Alex Filippenko, one of the leaders of the NASA-backed operations which observed the phenomenon that began last fall, in a statement presenting the find.

“We were astonished to see how bright it got, and how long it lasted,” said Filippenko, who headed teams at the Lick Observatory at Mount Hamilton, California, and the Keck Observatory in Mauna Kea, Hawaii.

The supernova, named SN 2006gy, was likely caused by “the death of an extremely massive star,” said Dave Pooley of the University of California at Berkeley, who headed the overall observation project by NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory.

The resulting stellar light show lasted 70 days.

A supernova usually occurs when a vast star collapses under its own gravity because it has ceased to produce nuclear energy in its core. But the astronomers think that this explosion may have been due to a drop in energy caused by particle changes brought about by radioactive gamma rays.

It takes a star at least eight times the size of the sun to burst into a supernova, but SN 2006 appears to have been much bigger, the report said — around the size of 150 suns.

“Astronomers think many of the first generation of stars were this massive, and this new supernova may thus provide a rare glimpse of how the first stars died,” the team’s statement said.

“It is unprecedented, however, to find such a massive star and witness its death.”

When I was seventeen

May 3rd, 2007 by Sach

The Publisher rang me late last night, “Sachin, how are you”, he asked, in his usual up beat, slightly condescending manner.  “How’s the book coming?” The truth was since my ten days sprint in book writing, I just haven’t found the time to get on with it.  He’s not happy - but hey - it’s hard writing a book on philosophy thats meant to reflect ones own life! A few of you guys have asked for an update so here it is: Chapter 4 called “Angels come in all sizes”, and this is from a sub-section called “Luck comes in Gangs”.  Bear in mind that this is still only the 1st draft…so ignore the grammatical mistakes - there are plenty!

“What the fuck are you all playing at”, I yelled.  “Look at what shirt you’ve got on, we’re Rangers, not bunch of pussy footing minnows”, I went on.  “Now we have two choices in front of us.  One is this, we go on that field half hearted, embarrassed and weaker than the opposition.  If we go out like this we’ll get beat.  Fuck it, we’ll get hammered.  We’ve been played off the park by these, and I’m sorry to say that I think coach is wrong, it’s not about tactics; it’s about fucking spirit; the spirit to fight and to do what it takes to win.”  Now while I was in the middle of this war cry, the opposition coach was carefully listening to what I was saying, I was completely unaware.  “The second choice” I carried on, “is that we play like Rangers, we play to win, we fucking fight till we bleed and we don’t stop running till our legs fall off.  If we do this for forty-five minutes, we’ll walk away with pride.  So what do you want?  In forty-five minutes you can become men or we can leave here as a bunch of pussies.”  At the top of my voice, I yelled “What are we?”  “Rangers” came the proud call back.  The lads were awake and fired up for the fight.  “Who are we?” I yelled again.  The name “Rangers”, echoed across the field.

The team played like champions, we won the game by four to their two.  It was an incredible performance.  After the game, we went to shake hands with the opposition.  Their coach came directly over to me.  He shook my hand, firmly but with respect.  His eyes told me that he was proud, of his team but also, of me.  “Amazing come back”, he said.  “Thanks”, I acknowledged looking down.  “Don’t know if I like being called a bunch of pussy footing minnows”, he came back.  I immediately looked to gauge his facial expressions.  He was smiling and relaxed.  “Sorry I didn’t mean for you to hear that”, I said rather meekly.  “You have quite a character, I’ve never seen a coloured boy like you” he blurted out.  His face showed no sign that he acknowledged that what he had said was racist and deeply offensive.  He said it innocently; there was no malice in his voice or on his facial expression.  As we walked in the direction of the changing rooms, he spoke again, “have you thought about what you want to do with your life”, he asked.  “No, not really”, I replied.  “Well, from what I’ve seen today, I think you’d make a great officer in her Majesty’s Royal Air Force.  Why don’t you come to the recruitment offices on Rutland Street in town, and I’ll personally take you through what the RAF can offer someone like you.”
It took a while for it to sink in.  The sound of “Her Majesty’s Royal Air Force” echoed in my head all day.

Local Elections

April 23rd, 2007 by Weco

Here we are, yet again - practicing our Sacred Democracy. Its local election time in many places across the country. Will you be voting?  If so, do you know for who and why? If you’re the majority (who will not be voting) ask yourself why? Is it because politics is boring?  Or is all rather disenchanting? Is there a difference between any of these politicians?

At Wecomeone, we don’t worry about voting or not - rather we ask ourselves WHY - to what ever it is that we are feeling!  I have to say, we do take the whole voting thing rather seriously here at our office.  We like to introspect.  We invaded Iraq, killing tens of thousands in the process, we’ve turned a reletavely nasty stable country into just a NASTY country - all for what?  “Ahhhh yes - for Democracy, FREEDOM and the Stars & Stripes - no sorry not the last bit!!

So we went off galavanting to foreign lands to spread the noble values of democracy - so it should be us leading the way in how to practice it - right?

I’m not sure if I will be voting - I’m off Labour, can’t trust Conservatives and Liberals, well their Liberal!! How about the Green Party, or the crazy looney raving party, not sure about you, but am a little confused!

Why dont you tell us who you voted for and why.  We’d like to know, and it’d be great to bring a snippet of democracy into our Blog.

Den Haag

April 13th, 2007 by Weco

It’s day 6 on my trip to Holland, Den Haag, its political centre.

Today is Friday and the sun is shining.  About 100 yards from the flat in which i have isolated myself to write my book, I can see a central square.  The square is filled with people meeting one another, sharing a drink and catching up with what life has shown them the previous week.

The point worth noting is that one half of the square is full of people sitting outside drinking coffee or a glass of red wine, while the other half is full of bikes that people have rode to get there!  To ride a bike here is liking using your phone back home.  Its just normal to cycle every where.

Another point worth noting is that people aren’t just meeting their friends or colleagues, far from it, people are here with their families.  The kids cycle after school, the parents leave their work and cycle down at the designated cafe to meet them.  I saw tables where kids, their parents and grand parents were catching up.

It got me thinking…in England, we’d probably have been with mates, having an early p**s up! I wouldn’t have seen grandparents with their grand children in a fancy cafe drinking coffee or sharing a glass of wine.  It occured to me that here family is important, it is more central in everyones lives - as it should be!

It got me thinking, when was the last time, i said to my granny, “hey come on, cycle down to town, and we’ll have coffee after I finish work”?

Maybe I should.  Sure, people will look at me funny, but who cares!!

Our Condition?

March 31st, 2007 by Weco

There are two kinds of sufferers in this world: those who suffer from a lack of life, and those who suffer from an over-abundance of life. I have always found myself in the second category. When you come to think of it, almost all human behavior and activity is not, essentially, any different from animal behaviour. The most advanced technologies and craftsmanship bring us, at best, up to the super-chimpanzee level.

Actually, the gap between, say, Plato or Nietzsche, and the average human is greater than the gap between that chimpanzee and the average human. The realm of the real spirit, the true artist, the saint, the philosopher, is rarely achieved. Why so few? Why is world history and evolution not stories of progress, rather this endless and futile addition of zeros? No greater values have developed. Hell, the Greeks 3,000 years ago were just as advanced as we are. So what are these barriers that keep people from reaching anywhere near their real potential. The answer to that can be found in another question, and that’s this: which is the most universal human characteristic:

fear or laziness?

Answer: FEAR.
